Dr Ravi Jain

MBChB • PGDipAvMed • FRACS (ORL-HNS) • PhD

Dr Ravi Jain is an adult and paediatric ENT surgeon dedicated to helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes. He is thorough, conscientious and empathetic in his patient-centred approach to surgical care.

Ravi is passionate about employing evidence-based strategies for the treatment of ENT conditions, and has undertaken extensive research in the field of rhinology (nose and sinuses). He completed a PhD in 2017 in which he investigated methods to optimise outcomes in the management of chronic sinusitis. He has presented his research at conferences around the world and continues to be involved with surgical research and teaching the next generation of surgeons.

He has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including The New Zealand Health Research Council Fellowship and The Sir Charles Hastings Medal of Excellence.

Having previously practiced in Sydney (Westmead and Norwest), Ravi has now relocated his practice to Melbourne, consulting across Bayside and the Mornington Peninsula.

Ravi commonly treats conditions such as:

  • Blocked nose

  • Rhinitis (hay fever)

  • Deviated nasal septum

  • Sinusitis – complex and revision functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS)

  • Nose bleeds

  • Snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (adult and children)

  • Tonsillitis

  • Glue ear, ear infections and hearing loss.

Ravi’s clinical practice is supported by a strong academic and research background. After graduating from Otago University Medical School in 2008, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Aviation Medicine. This lens allows Ravi to apply an understanding of aeromedical physiology and safety systems directly into his surgical practice.

Alongside his specialist training, Ravi dedicated several years to advanced surgical research, completing a PhD at the University of Auckland in 2017 focused on advancing clinical outcomes in rhinology. His doctoral research was uniquely multidisciplinary, investigating methods to understand and improve postoperative recovery in patients undergoing sinus surgery. This included:

  • Understanding the changes that occur in the sinus microbiome with surgery

  • Understanding and optimising wound healing after surgery

  • Use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyse how nasal airflow and drug deposition can be optimised after surgery

This research continues to inform his evidence-based approach to patient care.

After completing his specialist ENT training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Ravi moved to Sydney to undertake a further sub-specialty Fellowship in Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Surgery, focusing on the management of complex nose and sinus conditions.

Qualifications

Ravi is a clinical researcher and educator focused on translational research, bringing evidence-based laboratory insights directly into the operating theatre for better patient outcomes, particularly after surgery. He has over 40 peer-reviewed articles published in international journals and he is currently authoring a clinical textbook alongside a global network of expert collaborators. He has given numerous talks at international conferences.

Ravi enjoys teaching and training the next generation of ENT surgeons. Beyond clinical supervision, he finds great fulfilment in academic mentorship, particularly in supervising registrars undertaking higher academic degrees.

Research and Teaching

Outside of the operating theatre, Ravi is a dedicated family man and father of two. He is a keen supporter of cricket, rugby, tennis, and AFL. He also finds balance in the arts, enjoying photography and playing both classical violin and piano.
